Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find out how the stream near me tested compared to other streams across the Nation?
This study was not designed to enable a comparative evaluation of streams tested in this study. The results should be viewed as a measure of the occurrence of these compounds in streams affected by similar wastewater sources but representative of a wide range of hydrogeologic and climatic conditions. Significant additional data collection at each stream is needed for such a specific comparative analysis. These results are being used to evaluate specific streams where additional testing to determine temporal and spatial persistence of these compounds.
