Frequently Asked Questions

Should people be concerned about drinking their tap water?
The information from this study does not warrant discontinued use of water from your tap. These data provide concentrations of these chemicals in surface waters based on a single snapshot in time prior to being treated and provided as drinking water. Generally, concentrations of all chemicals detected were low. Public water-supply systems are closely monitored for many known toxicants to assure potability. Local and federal regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (htttp://www.epa.gov), and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have regulatory programs to protect public and ecosystem health, and processes are in place for licensing and regulation of new compounds that might make their way into the environment.
