Fred Murphy with a soil core collected with a prototype of the sample-freezing drive shoe during the summer of 1990. Fred is removing the core from a cryogenics chamber at the Bemidji Toxics Site. The core is frozen to preserve the distribution of fluids in the core for later chemical analysis.
